Moratorium on Hydraulic fracturing - 21. April 2011

This is the result when we put our trust in our LORD, JESUS!

We have just learnt that parliament voted on a Motion this morning which was passed and which places a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in the Karoo until it has been fully investigated.

Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking)

"The thief's purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness." (John 10.10)

The community of Beaufort West, is extremely gratefull for all the support  received during the recent two year long drought and subsequent water crisis. The magnitude of the country wide reaction was overwhelming.

We recieved thousands and thousands of litres of water from various people and organizations, from huge tanker loads to tons of bottles of water from passing motorists through the Radio RSG driven "Bottels vir Beaufort" initiative.

The first rains fell on the 17th of December 2010 and ever since we have been blessed with abundant and widespread rain spells. The Gamka dam is curently 30% full! Praise and thanks to our Heavenly Father!

But our elated spririts were suddenly dampened with news of a planned mining activity here in our VERY Fragile Karoo. We are again in a situation where as much as possible help is needed.

Currently we are facing the threat of huge oil companies planning a mining activity involving Gas Drilling through a process of Hydraulic Fracturing. These companies are in the process of submitting to government an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and we suspect the process has already progressed beyond that (still no information available from Falcon).

It seems as if some people don't realize how fragile the Karoo is.. and especially how scarce our water resources are!

Please take a minute to go through the documents in our Information section as well as some of the websites in our Links section and get properly informed about the environmental and health issues that result from the Hydraulic Fracturing mining activities.

Please donate!

This is a non-profit community based project and dependent on funding.

If you have a heart for the Karoo please support us in protecting one of the most beautiful and untouched regions in the world!
